Land and Sea Power Services Ltd
OFFERS THE WHOLE PACKAGE – EXPERIENCE
Land and Sea Power Service Limited (LSPSL) ‘one-stop shop’ has been the dream child of a long-time sailor and marine mechanic, Captain Teshawn Cameron (aka
“Cam”), since 2012. He describes it as getting the best of both worlds – “I can sail and fix a boat,” he explains.
Cam has shared his passion for being a licensed captain and mariner with his father, uncles, and cousins for the last 14 years. Having been around boats from the time he could walk and talk, he always wanted to start a marine company, doing charters and marine maintenance. His studies in Diesel and Industrial Technology and becoming a licenced technician for over 15 years opened the door for him to work on generators and the other things that go along with power generation.
On the land side, LSPSL covers automotive, industrial, off-road equipment – diesel equipment, standby generators, residential/commercial/ automotive – truck engines, and anything powered by diesel engines, with specialization in Cummins power equipment. LSPSL covers everything from bow to stern and offers marine maintenance, mechanical to electrical systems, air conditioning, preventive care, installations, and diagnostics when it comes to the sea.
Cam’s company also do day charters in BVI and USVI, water transportation (water taxi), and water sports. The fleet comprises a 38’ Tiara, a fleet of four whalers, and three RIBS, and he has a 45’ Tiara coming on board. Favourite charters include snorkelling at Diamond Reef, on the east coast of Great Camanoe and Marina Cay, the Baths (one of the biggest attractions in the BVI), swimming into Devil’s Bay and walking the trail through the boulders, and exit to the Baths. Cruising down to Cooper Island for lunch or a cocktail is recommended, with a chance to try any of the six local beers brewed there. Norman Island provides the opportunity to snorkel the Caves and the Indians, and then, of course, there is Willy T for fun and drinks, jumping overboard, and getting tattoos and body shots. A perfect ending to the day is visiting Jost Van Dyke, first to Soggy Dollar on White Bay to enjoy drinks. Early charters would have included going to Foxy’s to meet Foxy himself for a story or a song, then sailing away at sunset.
When asked about his favourite day trip, he smiles and ponders. In his mind, each island and location is unique and has its attraction or vibe, having enjoyed it all for what it has to offer. He shares his love for guided sightseeing tours on the Boston Whalers. In his words
“You get to be your captain, and you don’t need any prior experience. You sail your whaler to your destination” The tours are a maximum of five boats, departing from Trellis Bay and covering the northeastern side of Tortola, sailing near Scrub Island, Great Camanoe. Little Camanoe and Guana Island. This includes tours to Long Bay Beach, Beef Island, Little Bay, Lambert, Josiah’s Bay, and depending on the water; you can go to Trunk Bay to what is called ‘Lava Flow’ (a coral rock formation). Guests get the option to snorkel live coral reefs, or draw their anchor and go to the beach.”
Cam’s preference for the whalers is because of their safety aspect, as the Boston Whalers are known for being “unsinkable.
The day trips can be either full or half-day charters aboard the 38’ Tiara (certified for ten passengers) and include picnics. Everything is perfectly set up, and
all the customer has to do is show up. There are also lunch trips and sunset and sunrise cruises on all the boats. In particular, the sunrise cruise puts “gusto under your wings” when you watch the sun come up on the ocean. Guests are also taken to exclusive spots where they can hike and jump off rocks in Little Bay and another secret location. All trips come with complimentary beverages, snacks, snorkel gear, rum punch and painkiller; if there is a special request within reason, it is entertained.
Water sports are becoming more popular, especially among the younger vacationers. LSPSL provides equipment rentals at Long Bay, Beef Island, and can deliver kayaks, snorkel equipment, tubes, sub wings and sea scooters on the island wherever their customers are located. One of the highlights for Cam where his business is concerned is sharing BVI Love when he meets new people, whether locals or tourists. A chance to showcase the culture and educate them about the BVI is stimulating, and he, in turn, learns about their culture. Cam goes all out to ensure that his guests have the best time of their life. “That’s what makes me go,” he says. Hearing, “This made my trip”, when people take the wheel for a bit during a charter, sometimes that makes their whole vacation – something they’ll never forget.
